What is meditation

Let me tell you a short story….

 

When I look back to the day when I locked myself away in my spare room, I felt a little lost, stressed and anxious at this point in my life and I needed some help.

 

I went armed with a cup of tea and sat down in the middle of the room.

 

I had the thought (yes another thought, but we will get to that soon) that I would try meditation.

 

Yet I had no clue how to do that or where to start. If I am honest, I felt so lost at this point I could have started praying or crying when locked away in that room​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​. That’s how out of control I felt.

 

So I sat and just shut my eyes whilst I hugged my tea.

 

 

 

 

I was shocked myself!

 

 

I understood meditation at the time to be a case of eliminating all thoughts from your mind and I couldn’t believe how much noise there was in my head!!

 

In those 10 minutes​ when I was sat on my arse letting my tea go cold in my hands, I couldn’t manage more than 2 seconds without a though running through my head!

 

Thoughts on absolutely everything from what Oscar (my dog) is doing to​ what I am going to buy in the food shopping tomorrow.

 

I just couldn’t believe how busy my mind was!

 

Fast forward a few years and meditation, in various forms, is now part of my daily routine and I can safely and honestly say – it has completely changed me for the better!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Many of us have some fears or nervousness about meditation.

 

Still, many people do not see the benefits and alot of people see it as a silly waste of time.

 


But let me tell you something……

 

 

I am not a Buddhist Monk! I am just a regular 40 year old man.

 

I am not a hippie and do not walk around in technicolour dressing gowns everywhere I go!

 

But I do see the importance of this ancient Eastern practice and by making it part of my daily routine, my health has been improved 100%.

 

My stress levels are lower than the soil under my feet and my anxieties have disappeared.

 

Why would you not want to even try this practice if for 10 minutes a day you can gain all these wonderful benefits?!
